This past weekend was Canadian Thanksgiving! It’s one of my favourite times of year. I mean, yes, the food – turkey, stuffing, pumpkin pie, and everything in between. But to me it’s the season. I LOVE AUTUMN. I love the colours of our beautiful city and river valley as they turn, I love that we have warm, sunny days, but crisp cool evenings, and I love that it’s finally sweater weather.
I know, I know, us crazy Canucks up in the Great White North celebrate our Thanksgiving so much earlier than Americans. Our growing season is much shorter, and therefore our harvest is much sooner than those south of the boarder. Canadian Thanksgiving happens on the 2nd week of October, and to me, its perfect!
I always get a little sappy around Thanksgiving because I try and take the time to reflect on what I am really thankful for. This year was no different! Above all, I am just so thankful for the cozy space we call home, and my healthy little family. I feel so blessed to be loved and endlessly supported by my husband, and for the both of us to watch Ada grow into this sweet little human being. Ada has recently been kissing and hugging us, and saying, “I love you” without us prompting or asking. I mean, my heart is in a puddle on the floor – I’m just so Thankful!
We celebrated this weekend with a family dinner for my mom’s side at my mom and step dad’s house on Sunday night. It was fantastic! And my mom totally nailed it. The stuffing was just like my Oma’s (she sadly passed away in 2015)! We were all so proud of her!
Colin and I then hosted my dad’s side at our house on Monday night. I cooked my first turkey dinner! 21 pounds baby, and it was so good (if I do say so myself). We fed 12 of my family members that all sat around our dinning room table. It was so special to host Thanksgiving at our house this year and Ada just loved having (most of) her aunts and Uncles around to entertain!
I shared a few of our family fall photos above that we took just before the weekend festivities hit! We couldn’t have picked a better evening – the sun was so warm! Ada loved playing in the tall grass and tickling us with pieces she pulled! I hope there are more warm days before the snow.
Hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving with your families and friends!
xoxo Andrea
