For Canada long weekend (July 1st) Ada and I were lucky enough to head out to our family’s cabin in the Shuswaps! It’s seriously our favourite place…Like heaven on earth.

My step-mom’s grandma’s birthday falls on Canada Day, and this year she turned 99! Can you believe it? Like 99 years old and she is truly a spit-fire – she’s so with it, pretty mobile and such a jokester. I just love her. She is the type of grandma who says it like it is and has a “chocolate milk” every night with dinner (a White Russian) – she says it’s the only way she will drink her milk! Ha!

We spent a lot of time with my step-mom’s family over the long weekend as some of her family was staying with us at our place. We went to a couple gatherings to celebrate G-Grandma. It was all very enjoyable. Ada enjoyed playing with her step-cousins! One of them is only two weeks younger than Ada and they are both strong willed and ever so capable! So cute to watch the kids run around and chase each other. It’ll be fun to watch them spend time together during the summer months every year playing at the lake!

Ada loved playing on the shore, and especially loved boat-rides with Grandpa! She loves the warm wind on her face and dancing to the music! If you follow me on instagram (@andreaveale) and watched my instastories you would have seen all the dancing on the boat and the giggles that went along with it!! I am such a lake girl – I love it all and I can see Ada following suit 😉

I took her on her first kayak ride. She was loving it…for the first 10 minutes. She can’t sit still for longer than that. I should have known she would get restless, but I thought that because we were doing something fun and different it would be stimulating enough to distract her. She started fussing and I thought it would be a good idea to dip her toes in the water, not realizing how tippy the kayak was. I lifted her off my lap and closer to the water… we totally tipped and fell in. I was so dumb – like hello! of course we were going to tip! Anyways, Ada was totally fine. She got a little spooked, but she was wearing a life jacket that we bought at West Coast Kids and did very well. It took me a few minutes of catching my breath after frantically swimming us to the dock. Life lesson – I also need to wear a life jacket when kayaking with a baby! DUH!

It’s so fun to look back on this trip because it is getting me so excited for this weekend! When Colin comes home at the end of this week we will head back out to the cabin as a family! Really looking forward to some much needed time together. 5 MORE SLEEPS! My Dad is just so proud of the cabin and I know he is so thrilled to see us come out and enjoy the place he has poured his heart and soul into over the past few years!

Hope you all had a wonderful weekend! Ada and I were busy hosting our friends (Jessica and John) from Calgary. They came and stayed with us and brought their 4 week old baby named Brooke! She’s so cute and tiny. It’s crazy to think Ada was that size at one point! Jessica is such a good Mama – she’s a natural and it’s so cool to see how calm she is. I feel like at 4 weeks I was still a ball of nerves and overthinking everything…

Ada was obsessed with Brooke. Always saying hi to her, sharing her blankie, and bouncing her in the bouncy chair (a little aggressively, but hey?!). It was so cute to see how much Ada was so interested in her – although I was still constantly reminding her to be gentle and to not poke the baby’s eyes out. Haha! And i, of course, loved the new born snuggles! Man I miss those!

We did a lot of relaxing and went on a few walks – it was nice to catch up with Jessica! We also went to the Edmonton Valley Zoo. It was my first time there and years, and of course Ada’s first. She so loved seeing all the animals and making their noises! We will definitely be heading back… and next time with Dada! ❤

xoxo Andrea

P.S. I’m so sad because I lost my Maui Jim sunglasses! These pictures are documenting my last time wearing those beauties….I will forever miss them 😦 They were seriously my favourite pair. Arg.
