I’m still making my way through some of our Scottsdale pictures from last month when we took a friends trip! These specifically were taken the day we went on a hike. This day was so beautiful; the weather so hot. Spenser and Dan have been to AZ many times and suggested we climb Camelback Mountain. We waited until our last full day to give it a shot.
We got up pretty darn early to beat the heat. Ada was super SUPER fussy! Like more fussy than any other morning. Colin and I were so confused. She wanted to walk, she didn’t want to walk. She wanted up, she wanted down. We had fed her, her diaper was clean… She usually loves sitting in her carrier, but was resisting it so much. Colin had her on his back and there was one point were we just had to say SCREW IT, lets go. I kinda get super stressed when she’s super stressed – I mean doesn’t every mom? Jeezz. We started the climb, fussy/whiny baby in tow.
Even just a few steps up the trail and the views were so beautiful. The morning we chose was perfect – not too hazy. Again, this was my first trip to Arizona and I was blown away by the scenery. I love a good cactus! And that red dirt. So cool – nothing like anything up here in Canada.
Colin and I can get pretty intense about accomplishing things once we start, and it took a little convincing from our friends Dan and Spenser to just be ok with turning around after only about a half an hour in. Thank goodness for honest, sensible, easy-going friends. Ada just wouldn’t settle. And it was becoming miserable to continue or enjoy the hike because she was just not happy. Colin and I traded her back and forth…nothing. You should have seen the looks we were getting from the other hikers. They must have thought we were torturing her. Half way down the descent she fell asleep. Like what? That was it? She was just tired? Duh! She was clearly showing us all the signs, we were just blind to see them. Colin and I both felt silly. We let her sleep while we walked back to our car – we were already too far down to continue the hike. Total fail….but the attempt was there and we did make it to that amazing view point were we shot most those pictures.
Once Ada woke, we drove straight to the Breakfast Club for some well-deserved morning grub, and then spent the day walking around checking out little stores all around Oldtown Scottsdale. The day ended up up being really nice.
Poor Ada…Lesson learned!
xoxo Andrea
